House @ 84 Jalan Lim Tai See

Project Scope: New

Completion: 2024

The 3-storey semi-detached house sits on a triangulated land with a prominently wide frontage. The design ensured that the generous exposure is given due attention with a carefully crafted veiled facade, assembled as a series of motorized pixilated screens that changes with the occupants’ desires for exposure, for privacy, for letting in the sun, or filtering the lights… The first storey is anchored by the central dining hall, an expression of a desire for family bonding over good food. The series of inteconnected living and dining halls, and a long patio along the garden creates an ideal setting for entertaining extended family and guests alike. A glass lift and staircase punctures the triple volume to connect all levels across the house. The occupants finds privacy at 2nd and 3rd storey, where ensuite bedrooms are arranged around a double volume family lounge. The light-filled and lofty lounge is both a visual and a symbolic unifier of space, and of family. The separation between inside and outside compromises of layers of inbetween spaces to buffer interiors from our tropical elements, including terraces and balconies, deep set hooded windows, as well as screens and greens. At night, the house becomes a lighted spectacle to passerbys. The varying angles of the pixilated screens offer brand new ways to experience the play of light and shadow at different moments.
