As part of Island Medical Hospital’s expansion plan, a new 12-storey healthcare facility with specialist outpatient clinics and a 300-bed hospital is planned opposite to their current premise as a response to healthcare tourism needs. The building massing and faced is designed as a streamlined, modern form to express the efficient and integrated processes of one of the top medical facility in Penang. The glass facade increases the amount of daylight into the hospital while also reflects the city on its surface. Together with the introduction of green atriums, spaces are crafted and finished to create a conducive recovery environment for patients and healthcare workers alike. At the ground level, a double height shopfront glass floats the building mass and allows filtered light deep into the building, seamlessly connecting inside and outside.
