The OOREDOO Maldives HQ Office is purpose-designed to functionally consolidate the telco’s operations in the Maldives, as well as to communicate its vision and ambition to be a leader in the Maldives’ drive for advancement in digitalisation and communication. The HQ building is designed to be a visual reference along the urban fringes of Hulhumale Central Park. The chiselled contemporary silhouette is austere from the outside, while spaces inside are laid out to embrace the panoramic vista of the park.
The building is designed with two key spaces that express the aspirations of the business – a triple-volume OOREDOO Experience Centre at ground level, reciprocated with a quadruple-volume Sky Townhall at the highest floors of the building. The former space is dedicated to customer service and outreach, while the latter space is given over to staff interaction and large gatherings. Flexible open-plan office spaces occupy the floors in between, with shared meeting rooms flanking the lift lobbies. Glass lifts, and a centrally positioned staff communication staircase connect different floors into a seamless work environment to foster corporate togetherness.
In the Experience Centre, the trademark red of OOREDOO is adopted and adapted as a series of folded planes that seamlessly turn the ceiling into walls, relating inside and out, creating a dynamic public environment for engaging customers. The Sky Townhall features a series of cascading timber decks inspired by designs of historical public forums and shaped for both small group discussions and large corporate forums. A cafeteria, gym, recreational lounge, and roof terrace surround the Sky Townhall.
The overall massing comprises a juxtaposition of an opaque ‘L-shaped solid wall’ with an opposing transparent ‘L-shaped glazed façade.’ The opaque wall buffers the building from the harsh west sun and the adjacent neighbour, while the transparent façade opens the building to views of the park and ocean. To reduce reliance on artificial lighting, the design invites natural light deep into the building through its full-height glazed façade. A palette of advanced and sustainable materials and technologies sets the building apart from others – low-E unitised curtain wall, lighting management, rainwater harvesting, building-integrated photovoltaic, and digital display façade systems.
